Simple Savory Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet work best)

  • 5 tablespoons butter

  • ½ cup milk (or more for creamier potatoes)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon garlic salt


Optional ingredients for a little something extra:

  • ¼ cup sour cream or cream cheese for extra creaminess

  • optional: 3 tbsp Hidden Valley Ranch Powder for extra flavor

  • Dice up 3-4 slices of cooked bacon to garnish

 

Cooking Utensils

  • Cutting board

  • Paring knife or chef’s knife: to peel and cut potatoes

  • Large pot: for boiling the potatoes

  • Colander: for draining

  • Potato masher or hand mixer

  • Measuring cup

  • Measuring spoons

  • Wooden spoon or spatula

  • Serving bowl

 

Prep Steps

  1. Peel and cut potatoes into even chunks, about 1–2 inch cubes

  2. Boil in a large pot of salted water until tender (about 15–20 minutes).

    • They’re ready when easily pierced with a fork.

  3. Drain the potatoes well, then return them to the warm pot.

  4. Mash with a potato masher, or use a hand mixer for smoother potatoes

    • A fork will work just fine too!

  5. Add butter and warm milk, a little at a time, while mashing until smooth and fluffy.

  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

(Optional) Stir in sour cream or cream cheese for extra richness.

(Optional) Mix in 3 tbsp of Hidden Vally Ranch Powder

(Optional) Sprinkle diced bacon bits over the mashed potatoes
