Ingredients:

• 1 loaf of day-old bread, cut into cubes (about 10 cups)

• 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter

• 1 medium onion, finely chopped

• 2–3 celery stalks, finely chopped

• 2–3 cups chicken or turkey broth

• 2 large eggs, lightly beaten

• 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)

• 1 teaspoon dried sage

• 1 teaspoon dried thyme

• ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

• ½ teaspoon black pepper

 

Cooking utensils:

• Large skillet

• Large mixing bowl

• Wooden spoon or spatula

• Measuring cups and spoons

• Knife and cutting board

• 9x13-inch baking dish

• Whisk

• Aluminum foil

 

Prep Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 10–15 minutes until lightly crisp and dry. Set aside to cool.

  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

  4. Add chopped onion and celery, add to melted butter and cook for 5–7 minutes until soft and fragrant.

  5. Stir in parsley, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 more minute.

  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine toasted bread cubes with the cooked vegetable mixture.

  7. In a separate bowl, whisk together the broth and eggs.

  8. Pour the broth mixture over the bread mixture, tossing gently until evenly moistened. Add more broth if you prefer softer stuffing.

  9. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and cover with foil.

  10. Bake for 30 minutes covered, then uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until the top is golden brown.

  11. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm.
